December 2004COLORADO BALLET DANCES TO A NEW BEAT WITH HELP FROM !MPOSSIBLE PICTURES
The first spot, "Nutcracker," features a metal nutcracker performing a graceful rendition of the popular ballet. Set to the highly recognizable Nutcracker track, it leaps and twirls with utmost poise and elegance. The witty spot concludes with a curtsy from the nutcracker as the curtain drops with motion graphics announcing the upcoming performance of the ballet from November 27 - December 29 by the Colorado Ballet. The Colorado Ballet campaign marks another collaboration between !mpossible Pictures and Extra Strength Marketing Communications. Earlier this year, the two worked together on a project for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, which won a regional Emmy for Best Commercial. "The concept was so simple and brilliant," explains Steve Urbano, !mpossible Pictures VP/Director. "We actually worked backwards on this spot, starting with the music track and then choreographing the nutcracker's dance moves. To create a nice finale to the spot, we executed the nutcracker bowing at the end and the curtain drop to represent a real stage performance." To view the new campaign, go to:
In one of the spots, entitled "Rolling Tape," a couple struggles with an old-fashioned measuring tape. The spot is set to an upbeat, jazzy tune. "Meet the Straight-line Rolling Tape," says the authoritative narrator, "a revolutionary new electronic tape measure that rolls to measure distances up to 300 feet.and is smart enough to space up to 10 objects." The couple is happily surprised, and impressed with their new electronic measuring devise. They then work together easily to put up a wall full of frames. "So perfect the portraits," instructs the narrator. "Or thousands of other projects." While the husband hangs some curtains in one room, the wife is measuring a window in the next. "And have time to take out the trash," concludes the narrator, as the old-fashioned measuring tape rolls itself into the dumpster. The spot ends with a showcase of Strait-Line solutions and the Strait-Line logo, as well as the tagline: "Yet another advanced electronic tool from Strait-Line." "Typically, I am inspired by the design of a product," explains Michell. "My approach with Strait-Line was further influenced by putting myself in the place of the consumer. At home, I am the handy man so I wanted to see a believable scenario in which the tools were used. As a director, I was compelled to demonstrate the product in a stylish manner that reflected the engineering and design of the Strait-Line products." PUMA GETS CARRIED AWAY IN VISUALLY COMPELLING SPOTS WITH HELP FROM VERSION2
In the spot entitled "Butterfly," vibrant blue butterflies fly out of a blue PUMA with lime green accents and attach themselves to various points on the shoe. Then in a concerted effort in rhythm with a 1960s-inspired theme, they gracefully flutter their wings and fly up and away with it. "It's been really great working with Andrew Zuckerman," comments Dave Herman. "He's obviously a young director with a lot of talent and great visual ideas. This has been a truly unique experience conducive to producing excellent work because Andrew served as Creative Director -- concepting the spots, as well as Director -- executing them. Since he has a longstanding relationship with PUMA having done a beautiful body of work for their print campaign, they trust his instincts and the approval process has been significantly streamlined. I also credit PUMA for wanting to do something exceptional and having the flexibility to let Andrew actualize his simple and effective vision for the brand he began in print." THE POSSIBLE FILMS COLLECTION UNVEILS ITS PREMIERE DVD RELEASE: "SHORT WORKS BY HAL HARTLEY 1994-2004"New Distribution Company, Founded by Filmmaker Hal Hartley & His Long-Time Editor Steve Hamilton, Unveils First Short Film Compilation on DVD
This arresting collection of short work - six previously unreleased short films and videos by Hartley -- reveals the tireless experimentation, curiosity, and playfulness that lies behind his many feature films, like "The Unbelievable Truth," "Simple Men," "Amateur," "The Book of Life," "Trust," "Flirt," "Henry Fool," "No Such Thing," and his newest feature film "The Girl From Monday," due out in early 2005. "We founded the Possible Films Collection because we believe there is room in the marketplace for a greater diversity of film and video entertainment that is not currently represented," concludes Steve Hamilton. "Although the first few releases will be works by Hal Hartley, for whom there is an identifiable fan base, we are already seeking work by a diverse collection of independent film and video makers. We believe that our target audience is hungry for experimental and innovative film and video, and we intend to make it available to them." |
