V12 HELPS THE LAPD FIGHT GUN CRIME WITH MULTIMEDIA CAMPAIGN

V12 has just completed a compelling print and PSA television campaign for the Los Angeles Police Department to help fight illegal gun possession. The objective of the campaign is to inform Angelenos that some gun crimes in the City will be subject to federal prosecution. The hope is that this message will serve as a strong deterrent to people who are not persuaded by state penalties, which often are less severe.

To raise public awareness about the new program initiative Geoff McGann at V12 Studios in Santa Monica suggested a diverse campaign including billboard and television advertising, the latter being part of the national Project Safe Neighborhood initiative. All of the production work for the various media was created pro-bono by V12.

"This was a perfect opportunity for us at V12 to produce a wide-reaching and meaningful campaign, which is being distributed through various channels at the LAPD," McGann says. "It is a key opportunity to do something good for the community and hopefully help reduce crime in Los Angeles."

HI-WIRE'S OSCAR OBOZA HELPS CREATE COLORFUL CLIP WITH BARENAKED LADIES

HI-WIRE Colorist Oscar Oboza recently added his unique creative touch to the new Barenaked Ladies music video "Another Postcard." In the clip, directed by Phil Harder, a giant chimpanzee runs rampant through city streets in a contemporary humorous homage to Japanese Toho-style monster movies and various 70's disaster-genre films that combines stock footage, and live-action shots of the band. While havoc reigns, the band plays a series of characters including an army unit and a group of businessmen caught in the fray. The video concludes with the band performing inside of a free-standing tower. The chimp climbs the tower, which eventually blasts off into space.

"This video was the sixth I've worked on with the Harder/Fuller Films team and I really enjoy our ongoing collaboration," says Oscar Oboza. "For this particular clip, the challenge was unifying all of the source material, making certain elements stand out - such as the background fire and destruction -- while painting the band in cool tones."

TV STAR REGIS PHILBIN AND VICTORIA SECRET MODEL ALESSANDRA AMBROSIA GO OFFROADING WITH HELP FROM HUMMER AND LOST PLANET

Boston agency Modernista! recently commissioned the creative editorial talent of Lost Planet's Hank Corwin for a new spot for GM's HUMMER division, which stars Regis Philbin and Victoria Secret model Alessandra Ambrosia.

The commercial begins with Ambrosia cruising in a HUMMER, while Tom Jones' "Help Yourself" plays in the background. She pushes the OnStar button and a live operator asks how he can assist her. Out of nowhere, Philbin appears at the window and inquires, "How far to Miami?" and jumps into the passenger seat. "I love offroading," declares Ambrosia to which Philbin agrees. The camera pans back to reveal that the SUV is actually on the deck of a moving yacht. The dynamic spot ends with the HUMMER logo and tagline, "Like Nothing Else."

RING OF FIRE CREATES PROFESSIONAL GRADE SPOTS FOR GMC

The talented artists at digital effects studio Ring of Fire recently completed a dynamic new campaign for client GMC via ad agency Lowe Worldwide. Featuring the GMC Yukon XL and Sierra, the spots highlight the full-size professional grade capability and impressive performance of these vehicles.

"Handle It" opens on a close-up on a computer chip and pulls back to reveal engineers putting together an SUV in an accelerated stop-motion technique. "When you engineer the GMC Yukon XL to be the only vehicle in its class with the exclusive StabiliTrak stability control system that's just not an extra measure of control," remarks the voiceover, "that's professional grade engineering." The completed SUV morphs from the assembly line onto a wet, rain-soaked road where it navigates around road dividers and swerves around an encroaching car in the middle of the intersection.

The second spot, "Over the Top," follows a similar theme with a close-up of the rear differential spinning parts and a pullback to show a GMC manufacturing plant. "Only one full-sized pickup is engineered with automatic rear-locking differential and it's not the Ford F-150," begins the voiceover. "It's the GMC Sierra." The sturdy truck, built in fast motion, then transports from the assembly line to an outdoor road. The right side wheels of the Sierra are placed onto rollers and then compared via split screen with the Ford F-150 truck, also on rollers, as both drive uphill. The Sierra far surpasses the F-150 in traction and performance. "Professional grade engineering," comments the VO as the spot concludes with the same motion graphics and tagline.

"The most challenging aspect of this project was working around an actual moving and operating plant with real plant workers," concludes Spivack. "We had a great time collaborating with the production team to capture all of the stills and footage needed to make these spots truly unique."
